Adobe CS3 Released

The long awaited Adobe CS3 has been released today. To get more information on the software, you can go here.

Apple recommends at least 3 GB RAM, 128 MB VRAM and a 2.33 GHz Core 2 Duo processor. Will it run horribly if you have a Macbook with just 64 MB VRAM and 512-2024 MB RAM? Lets hope not because I'm sure a lot of people got new intel Macs specifically to run CS3. I think we may have some disappointed customers.

Adobe CS3 Leak

Amazon.ca leaked information on pricing of Adobe CS3. If you go here you can see for yourself. Photoshop CS3 will cost 895 CAD, or the equivalent of $770 USD.

Just a little refresher, CS3 will run natively on intel proessors, so it will be much faster for those of you lucky enough to have one. Also it is said to have significantly better features and usability than the current CS2.

New iMac in May?

Apple Insider has reported that the iMac has been redesigned and the new slimmer version will probably be released in May, along with Leopard. So is this the rumored black iMac, or an aluminum iMac that I predict?

Apple Insider also stated that Apple will drop the 17" model. This will probably lower the price of the 20" and the 24" iMac. So if you want to get an iMac, just wait a month or two.

Canon HD Camcorder / Digital Camera

This isn't really Apple related, but it would be the perfect companion for that shiny new Mac you just bought. The Canon Powershot TX1 not only can record in 720P HD, but also can take 7.1 MP photos. Other features are 10x optical zoom, face detection technology, a D!G!C processor, and ISO 80-1600 settings. And the icing on the cake is that it only costs $500!

This is a high-end digital camera that would easily cost you $300 alone and a high-end HD camcorder, which would easily cost $800 alone. Add it up, would you rather a separate camera and camcorder for $1,100, or a Canon all-in-one digital studio for less than half the price.

This camcorder will encourage other companies to lower the prices and up the quality on their camcorders, which will make non-HD camcorders obsolete due to the lack in difference of price between the two.

HD iTunes Downloads?

In the new software update of QuickTime, a new feature included is "Export to Apple TV". It gives the option of SD (Standard Definition) and HD. Since most people don't even have access to HD content (especially on their computers), some have come to the conclusion that Apple will start making HD videos available for download through iTunes. Would this hurt Sony and Toshiba with their brand spankin' new HD discs? Yes, because most people don't even have 1080P TVs. Of course this will change with time, but if Apple decides to also give the option, in the future, of downloading in 1080P, other major corporations (such as Sony and Toshiba) may be in deep shit. Think of it this way, would you rather buy a Blu-Ray player for $1,000, or buy a new loaded Mac Mini for $1000, which will do the same thing, and more.

Everything is becoming digitalized, there is no purpose anymore for physical media. The computer is becoming the entertainment hub for people. Computers will soon replace TVs' and other electronics in the home. If Apple does this, it will close the gap between TV and computer.

Now all Apple has to do is drop the Apple TV (I know it hasn't even been shipped to the general public yet), and incorporate all of its features into Macs.

8-Core Mac Pro Confirmed!

According to this screen shot, the Mac Pro will become available in 4 or 8 cores sometime soon. This leak was from the Apple UK store. Hopefully it isn't photoshopped...it would be very easy to fake it. I predict that the new line-up will be 2x2.66 GHz Xeon for $2200, 2x3.0 GHz Xeon for $2500, and 4x3.0 GHz Xeon for $3300. However, the Mac Pro doesn't have space for 4 processors, and I don't know of any new 4-Core inel processors, so maybe the Mac Pro will get the new design that everyone and their mother have been talking about.

UPDATE: I have just been informed that the day that this article was written, intel released a quad-core chip, however, it is not powerful enough for the Mac Pro.

"iMac Styled" Mac Pro?

So I was contemplating the Mac line up of computers and noticed how the "Pro" models are metal and the consumer models are plastic. The new 24" iMac can have 3 GB RAM, 2.33 GHz Core 2 Duo, 750 GB HD, 256 MB VRAM, and obviously, a 24" screen. If you ask me, that sounds like a computer that a Pro would have. Will Apple eventually release a metal "iMac Pro"? Could it replace the Mac Pro and force the "Mac tower" into extinction? Probably not. But I was just giving you something to chew on.

Ignore all of the rumors you hear, what do you think Apple will do next?

This is a paper I wrote for school and I thought you guys might enjoy it.

Apple Inc. was founded on April 1st, 1976, in Cupertino, California by Steve Jobs, Ronald Wayne, and Steve Wozniak. Apple started as a small company in which Steve Jobs would build microcomputers out of his parent’s garage. The company now makes an annual net income of $1,730,000,000. In Apple’s early years, only computers were produced, but in the early 1990s’, they entered the consumer electronics business.
Apple was one of the first companies to integrate a GUI (graphical user interface) into their computers by releasing the Apple II in 1977. Due to the Apple II, Apple became a market leader. Then in May 1980, Apple released the Apple III and struggled to stay on top even with tough competition from Microsoft and IBM. Then in 1983, the Apple Lisa was released, however it failed miserably due to its high price, $9,995. Finally, on January 24, 1984, the Macintosh was born along with the Macintosh operating system. In 1989, Apple entered the portable computer market by releasing the Macintosh Portable. And entered the consumer electronics market in 1993 by releasing the Apple Newton PDA, and later, the QuickTake digial camera (1997),the iPod(2001), the AppleTV(2007), and the iPhone(2007). All of these products convinced Apple Computers Inc. to change its name to Apple Inc. In 1997, Apple purchased a rival company, NeXT, also founded by Steve Jobs after he left Apple in the mid-1980s’ and reincorporated him into the company. Currently, Steve Jobs is the CEO and on the Board of Directors along with Former US Vice President Al Gore and other executives. Apple then opened an online store at www.apple.com. Then in 1998, Apple released the iMac, designed by Jonathan Ive, which revolutionized the computer industry by adding form to function. After that, in 2001, Apple opened retail stores across the world, and currently has 170 locations. Also, at that time, Apple released the iPod, which revolutionized the portable music industry, and Mac OS X, which is still the most advanced operating system on the market, until Apple releases Mac OS X Leopard in Summer 2007. Soon After the release of the iPod, The iTunes Music Store opened, which allows iPod users to download music from the internet at just $.99 per song. Over 2,000,000,000 songs have currently been downloaded from iTunes. In 2006, Apple switched from the outdated PowerPC processors to Intel’s Core Duo chips. These new processors allowed the Macintosh computers to natively run Windows, which gave Apple a large advantage over Microsoft. From all of these high-tech products being released, Apple’s stock went from $6 in 2003 to $98 in 2007.
Apple has always been one step ahead of its competitors by emphasizing innovation and staying on the cutting edge of technology.

New NVIDIA 128-Core Video Card (for Mac Pro?)

NVIDIA has released plans for a new GPU that has the equivalent of 128 1.35 GHZ processors. This processor is designed to carry the burden of processing general purpose applications, so it will be used as a secondary CPU. So if you have the equivalent of over 128 cores in your computer, you will be able to run much more sophisticated tasks, which opens a large window of opportunity for software makers(like Apple). This card, however, will run you a few grand. Will you see it anytime soon in Mac Pros? Probably not. I'd give it a year or two.

Macbook Nano with a Solid State Drive and no disc drive

Flash-Based iPod videos

So the only computers that aren't rumored to be upgraded are the Macbook Pro, Mac Mini(which is definately due for an update), and the Xserve(Which no consumers really care about anyways). BRING IT ON APPLE, BRING IT ON!

According to MacScoop, Apple will release an 8-Core Mac Pro(no word yet on whether it will be the smaller design with vents on top), and a black 24" iMac. I'm so excited that I could just eat popcorn and post blog entries while wearing only boxers. Oh wait...I'm already doing that.

The techies at T3 predict that Apple will release the long awaited Leopard OS as soon as March. Also, they say that updated versions of iWork and iLife will be released. This may sound pathetic, but I can't wait until they come out with the OS after Leopard. What would they call it though, I mean, would it be another cat? I think they need a new animal. Mac OS Mountain Goat....Mac OS Cheeta...I better just leave it up to the marketing specialists.

A New Mac Pro on the Horizon?

According to an anonymous source, the Mac Pro will get a facelift and have its stomach stapled. By that, I mean it will get skinnier, have its hardware messed with, and be redesigned externally. This rumored Mac Pro will have vents on top to allow hot air to escape, it will be smaller, and it will rip holes right through the universe at the push of a button(I just made that last part up...its actually a couple of buttons that you have to press). Will it arrive at WWDC? Is it the "Mac Pro/Power Mac Mini" that people have been talking about years? Will it be equipt with Blu-Ray support? Let us pray.

A Real Macbook Nano to Arrive at WWDC?

Rumor has it that at WWDC, Apple will re-enter the sub-notebook business by releasing a new notebook that is apparently smaller than the 12" Powerbook. This notebook(I'll just call it the Macbook Nano), will feature a SSD, instead of a HDD to consume less power and space. Also, it may not even have an internal disc drive. Maybe that will just be an excuse you can use to buy an external Blu-Ray drive ;) . This Macbook Nano is aimed towards the Japanese market(they like everything small over there...), where Apple isn't doing too hot with sales.

"Another one of those chatty Cathy Taiwan industry sources has leaked some information regarding a possible 15.4-inch MacBook release. This 15.4-inch MacBook is being made by Quanta Computer (the 13.3-inch MacBooks are made by Asustek) and is slated for a second quarter release. It is also being rumored that the price for this 15.4-inch MacBook will be more competitively priced because of the reduced cost of 15.4-inch LCD screens. Intel Demonstrates 80-core Processor

"Now that the Megahertz race has faded into the distance (we hear it was a myth), Intel is well and truly kicking off the start of a multi-core war with the demonstration of an 80-core research processor in San Francisco last week. It's not the first multi-core processor to reach double figures -- a company called ClearSpeed put 96 cores onto one of its CPUs -- but it's the first to be accompanied by the aim of making it generally available; an aim that Intel hopes to realize within a five year timeframe. The long time frame is required because current operating systems and software don't take full advantage of the benefits of multi-core processors. In order for Intel to successfully market processors with CPUs that have more than say, 4 cores, there needs to be an equal effort from software programmers, which is why producing an 80-core processor is only half the battle. On paper, 80-cores sounds impressive, but when the software isn't doing anything imaginative with them it's actually rather disappointing: during a demonstration, Intel could only manage to get 1 Teraflop out of the chip, a figure which many medium- to high-end graphics cards are easily capable of. The multi-core war may have begun, but the battle will be fought with software, although that's not to say that the hardware side has already been won: apparently the test chip is much larger than equivalent chips -- 275 mm squared, versus a typical Core 2 Duo's 143 mm squared -- and Intel currently has no way to hook up memory to the chip. Hopefully half a decade should be long enough to sort out these issues."

According to analyst Jesse Tortora, Apple will start converting all of the iPods over to SSD(Solid State Disk) to replace the "outdated" HDD(Hard Disk Drive). He also states that they will have the same touchscreen as the iPhone, Wi-Fi, and GPS. If the price stays the same, this may be a nice iPhone alternative. What does this mean for you?
